What Revenue charged

Revenue will not confirm a car's value before it is presented. These are the values it applied afterwards, reported by the people who paid.

How the figures are kept honest

  • A model and year is published only once it has 5 reports, and then only as medians and a range. No single report is ever shown.
  • Each report is checked against the VRT band table. A VRT figure that cannot fit the value and CO2 entered is not accepted.
  • One connection can send 3 reports an hour. To count them, a salted hash of the IP address is kept. The address itself is never stored.
  • The reports come from readers and are not verified against Revenue's records. Treat them as a guide to the range, not as a quote.
