An independent site
Camber is an independent site. It is not affiliated with Revenue, NCTS or any government body.
Links to revenue.ie and other official sites are there so you can check the source. They do not mean those bodies have approved anything here.
Every figure is an estimate
An estimate. Revenue sets the figure when the car is presented.
The calculator works from the figures you enter and the published rates. The amount you pay can differ, for reasons that include:
- Revenue decides the open market selling price of the car. Your own estimate of that value may be higher or lower than the one Revenue applies.
- The CO2 and NOx figures Revenue accepts depend on the documents you present. They may not match the figures you entered.
- Exchange rates, shipping charges and agent fees move between the estimate and the day you pay.
- A rule can change between the day you estimate and the day the car is registered.
Revenue determines the VRT when the car is presented for registration. No figure on this site binds Revenue, NCTS, a customs agent or anyone else.
Rules marked "not yet confirmed"
Some rules on the site could not be confirmed at a primary source. They are marked "not yet confirmed", with a note of what they rest on. Confirm each one with Revenue or a customs agent before you bid, pay or ship. The rule tracker lists which rules are verified and which are not.
Proposed measures are labelled as proposed. The calculator does not apply them until they are enacted.
Not advice
Nothing on this site is legal, tax or financial advice. It is general information. For a decision about your own car, ask Revenue, a customs agent or a qualified adviser.
Services listed on the site
Some services in the services directory pay for their placement, and those are labelled Sponsored. None is required to import a car, and none is endorsed by Revenue. See How Camber earns.
If something is wrong
If you find a figure that is wrong or out of date, email hello@camber.ie with the page and a source.
